Sample Treatment and Determination of Pesticide Residues in Potato Matrices: a Review

Abstract

This review presents an outline of analytical methods for the analysis of pesticide residues in potato, the world’s most important root and tuber crop. Pesticides are toxic substances that are used to kill unwanted pests and prevent them from attacking crops. Due to rapid urbanization and an ever-increasing population, overuse of these pesticides is likely to happen in developing countries. The conventional analytical methods such as gas chromatography and liquid chromatography coupled with various detectors are found to be the most widely used techniques. However, in this review, we summarize and explain the various isolation and clean-up procedures for the determination of pesticides in potatoes.
