Second section meeting: Symposium Potato AgroPhysiology 2013, Prague, Czech Republic: From 15th to 19th September 2013 the Symposium of Agronomy and Physiology Section of European Association for Potato Research was held in Prague with the title “Potato Agro Physiology 2013”. The Symposium took place under the support of the project “Support of the transfer of innovation in the agriculture, food industry and the bio energies into practice“ (OP EC). The Symposium was organized by Potato Research Institute Havlíčkův Brod and the following Organizing Committee:

  • Mehmet Emin Calışkan (Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies, Nigde University, Turkey)
  • Anton Haverkort  (Plant Research International, Netherlands)
  • Jean-Pierre Goffart  (Centre wallon de Recherches Agronomiques, Belgium)
  • Norbert U. Haase  (Federal Research Institute of Nutrition and Food,  Germany)
  • Jaroslav Čepl  (Potato Research Institute, Czech Republic)

Fifty-three scientists from 19 European, South American, North American and Asian countries participated in the Symposium. The Symposium was opened by Head Manager of the Agricultural Commodity Section from the Ministry of Agriculture Ing. Jílek, Parliament member Ing. Fischerová and by the President of Central Potato Union Ing. Chlan. A special programme was initiated involving 28 oral presentations divided into thematic blocks: potato physiology, growing technology - water and nutrition, growing technology II  - quality and organic farming.

During the excursion on 18th September the participants visited the company Intersnack Choustník, which produces potato chips and other potato products in the volume of 40 thousand tonnes of potatoes, the company Senagro Senožaty, which grows potatoes on the area of 250 ha, has a package line and delivers ware potatoes to Tesco. At the end of the excursion the participants visited Potato Research Institute Havlíčkův Brod, where practical post-harvest tests of potato health state were demonstrated.
